The country is divided in two sides, Greek-Cypriot part of the island is in the south, which is the most developed part of the island and member country of the European Union since May of 2004, and North Cyprus which is the occupied side inhabited by Turkish and Turkish-Cypriots.

In 2004, Cyprus became an official member country of the European Union, and is considered to be the connecting point of Europe with Middle East and the rest of world.
