2 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals on the first day of the 18th Games of Small States of Europe in Montenegro.
Cyprus now ranks fifth on the medal table, according to the Cyprus Sports Writers’ Union while Luxembourg ranks first (16 medals: 5 gold, 6 silver, 5 bronze), Monaco is second (15 medals: five gold, 4 silver, 6 bronze), third is Liechtenstein (7 medals: 5 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze), and Montenegro is fourth (5 medals: 3 gold, 0 silver, 2 bronze).
The gold medals were won by Sofia Asvesta in Judo -52kg and Yiorgos Balartzisvili in Judo -60kg.
The silver medals by Kalia Antoniou in Swimming 100m freestyle and
2x100m freestyle, Yiorgos Kroussaniotiakis in Judo -100kg, Aristos Michail in Judo -90kg, Alexandra Shchegoleva in Swimming 200m medley, and Chrystalla Papadopoulou, Tonia Papapetrou and Ioli Nikolaidou in Swimming 2x100m freestyle.
The bronze medals were won by Rudolf Kourtidis in Judo -73kg and Thomas Tsiopanis in Swimming 200m medley.
