Deputy Ministry for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy and Research Centre on Interactive Media, Smart Systems and Emerging Technologies RISE, call on citizens to download mobile application COVTRACER to help limit the spread of coronavirus.
According to a press release, in response to the call of the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Kyriakos Kokkinos, RISE has developed the application COVTRACER for mobile devices, in order to effectively contribute to the reduction of the spread of COVID-19 in Cyprus.
The main goal of COVTRACER is to stop the COVID-19 epidemic, by helping to quickly identify people who have come in contact with confirmed cases of the virus. By tracking the user’s locations in the past few days, the authorities could proceed with early measures in a case of a confirmed coronavirus infection, such as evacuation and disinfections of some areas. In addition, it facilitates the tracking of citizens who were close to the confirmed case, thus reducing further spread of the disease. The first version of the mobile app is aimed primarily at people whose work does not allow them to stay home, such as doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters, security forces and others.
It is noted that the application is on a voluntary basis and the data recorded, concerning the user’s location belong exclusively to the user, who could share them with the authorities only if they wish to.
The Deputy Ministry and RISE call on all citizens to contribute in the effort to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Cyprus by installing the application on their mobile phones, by visiting the
